At Makunae, we wanted to create a simpler and more honest way to communicate this.
The Makunae Seal exists to:

How the Makunae Seal Works
The Makunae Seal is a simple classification system that helps indicate how a product aligns with our sustainability principles. Rather than labelling everything as "perfect" or "100% sustainable", we evaluate products in a more balanced way. taking into account factors such as materials, sourcing, overall impact, and transparency. Each product is assigned one of these levels to help you quickly understand how it aligns with our standards. We currently use three levels:
Makunae Approved
Products meet at least one relevant sustainability criterion.
A considered entry level, still curated, still intentional, and aligned with the values of Makunae.
A good starting point for more conscious choices.
Makunae Conscious Choice
Products meet multiple sustainability criteria and show a stronger alignment with our overall principles.
A stronger step forward for customers looking for products that more closely reflect the values behind Makunae.
A stronger option for customers looking to go further.
Makunae Verified
Products have recognised as verified or a high level of traceability and transparency.
The highest level within our current system and the strongest level of trust and verification available.
Our highest standard for transparency and impact.
Our Approach

assigned.
Progress over unrealistic claims.
Not every product will meet the highest level, and that is okay. We believe it is more honest, and more useful, to recognise progress than to create unrealistic expectations.
Education over buzzwords
We avoid vague language and unsupported claims. Our intention is to communicate sustainability in a way that is honest. practical, and easy to follow.
